Brittany Warman

The Mermaid's Winter Song:

In December I string the stars through my hair,
and sing the songs of the snow-covered water.
I watch for you – foolish, alone,
(soulless you say)
knowing you will not see me, will not hear me,
knowing what frightens you is not that I have no soul
but that my soul is endless –
that it is the wind and the shimmer of the moon,
that it is the sea itself.
