Jonel Abellanosa

Nonfiction

If before midnight you catch a sight
of the golden leaf gliding into the well,
return by the moon’s lent light knowing
all is well, your prayer water stilled. What the wind
picks from the weary bough and tosses
                in your way,
                                     consume.
Love might keep the candles burning.
                                  The nightingale might sing.
